THE COACHING GUIDE:
From Lendon H. Smith, M.D., Portland,
Oregon:
"Thank you for the opportunity to read Dr.
Gaffney’s Coaching Guide for Better Parents
and Stronger Kids. I was delighted to find that
finally there is a user’s guide. All of
us need help to rear our children. This is the
manual we have been looking for. Pediatricians,
obstetricians, and general practitioners should
pas this out to their patients at their first
contact. This guide does not encourage strictness
nor leniency in child rearing. It is neither conservative
nor liberal. It promotes sanity and fairness.
"…I had thought that Haim Ginott told
us everything that we needed to know about setting
up parent-child dialogue, but Dr. Gaffney’s
"pass the tile" method is a winner for
defusing tensions. She gives us options. She has
wonderful examples of working through confrontations
without getting or being killed
.
"I have a short attention span, so I loved
the short chapters. I did not get burdened down
with rambling explanations of Freudian concepts.
The P-K triangles is exactly right to get us parents
to see the total picture and help us get through
the adventure of child-rearing so we can get on
with our own lives.
"The trick of child-rearing is to have some
fun with this adventure, and launch your children
so that they are reasonably non-neurotic and call
you on your fortieth anniversary to wish you well.
This book tells you how."
From Sarah Knotts, Executive Director
Big Brother and Sisters of Arlington, TX:
"Dr. Gaffney’s Coaching Guide should
be basic training for every parent. It is clear,
concise, written in easy terms, and provides easy-to-follow
directions to assess parents’ values and
beliefs. Armed with that knowledge, it becomes
much easier to interact with our children, challenge
them to be their best, and most importantly, have
the strength to own problems with the proper amount
of parent guidance.
"In this age of codependency, this philosophy
provides hop that we can raise children who function
appropriately and who will be able to take the
leadership reigns of this world as they move into
adulthood.
"Further, Big Brothers and Sisters of Arlington,
Texas, plans to use most, if not all, of the material
in this book as the curriculum for parent training
which will be implemented in 1997. We are confident
that the single parents and their children will
be much more in charge of their lives using Dr.
Gaffney’s common sense and sound approach.
In my 16 year tenure with this agency, I have
not seen any approach as sound as Dr. Gaffney’s.
"I heartily endorse this challenging and
effective coaching process."
From Jim, parent of 2 adolescents:
"I love your book. It's so practical!"
From Mary Jo, parent and an executive
coach:
"Dr. Gaffney gets to the heart of real parenting
challenges. She even devises an easy to
get formula to help parents determine what's going
on before they "lose it". Dr. Gaffney
gives us permission as parents to look deep into
the secrets of our familys' past ... to uncover
the forces that shape us as parents. She even
presents us with the parent/kids triangles ...
a helping guide to assist parents in relating
better to our children. The concepts and hands-on
exercises created and explored by Dr. Gaffney
get to the heart of real parenting challenges
and helps us devise solutions in a more effortless
manner."

PARENTING SEMINAR & LECTURE:
Pat Baker, Oak Bend Hospital, Fort Worth,
TX:
One word best describes your lecture for us last
evening, and that word is
O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G!
Seriously, everyone we've talked with said that
this was one of the best lectures they'd heard
in a long time and it provided plenty of "substance"
for them to take home and utilize.

RELAXATION & MEDITATION
COMPANION:
The soothing voice of Dr. Gaffney and the way
she presents the exercises helps me keep perspective
on things that bug me during the day. I now take
the time I need for myself – to calm down,
relax, and be more effective." -

The Coaching Guide for Relaxation and Meditation
is one of the most helpful tools for teaching
the relaxation response… It clearly describes
the nature of the relaxation response, how stress
in our daily lives affects us adversely, and the
role of breathing which is the foundation for
altering our physiology." - A neuropsychiatrist
